Finished out 2022 with another successful hunting

Finished out 2022 with another successful hunting experience and more memories with great friends. Brian and his family drove 20+ hours to Nebraska for a late season muzzleloader hunt. This was his first big game harvest ever, and the smile on his face tells me there will be more hunting adventures in his future.

Thank you, Brian, for trusting in Gary and I. We are blessed to have been a part of your journey, and we hope you feel more empowered and connected to the outdoor lifestyle. I'm glad the coolers are going back to CA heavy!

Mountain lion hunting was hard for me to accept at

Mountain lion hunting was hard for me to accept at first. I love cats, and I was obsessed with them growing up. But like all animals, each has an important and integral part within an ecosystem. Hunting is an opportunity to help manage populations, which contributes to maintaining sustainable and healthy ecosystems. These beautiful, majestic mountain lions are no different when it comes to hunting for management; honestly, I now believe they are more important to manage than most species. They are the ultimate predator and can easily create havoc on wild game populations (don't even get me started on wolves).

Gary has talked about a mountain lion hunt being on his bucket list since we met. Over the past 4 years, with many heartbreaks, disappointments, and wasted money, he about accepted the fact that he would never have an encounter, let alone have the chance to harvest a mature Tom.

This fall, he came across Canyon Rim Outfitters on Google, and after hours of research and reading testimonials, he was re-engaged and determined to give the mountains another try. First day of the hunt, Gary harvested a giant Tom with his bow. The hard work, perseverance, and respect he continues to show in the things he does is inspiring. And I am so proud of his accomplishment in ethically harvesting one of the most impressive animals on this planet.

Last night, I harvested my first mule deer during

Last night, I harvested my first mule deer during archery season. Lately my confidence with my vertical bow has limited me to shooting closer distances. Here recently the maximum distance I felt comfortable with was 35 yards, and that changes day to day. Yesterday, after sending some arrows through my Mathews, it was clear it was an off day for me. I didn't shoot as accurately as I wanted and I knew I couldn't shoot past 30 yards without concern.

While I was preparing to head to the blind, I made the decision to switch to our Ravin crossbow. I honestly have mixed feelings using it, because it feels like an easy button to me. But I've had some humbling experiences over the years, and the reality is a crossbow allows me to still be able to go hunting and have a successful experience.

Gary and I were blessed to purchase some land last summer and we've invested in many efforts for improving and managing wildlife. Hunting season is upon us, and with my crazy schedule I was finally able to make it into the blind and try my luck with several deer we've been scouting over the recent months.

Halloween night, just before sunset, Beamer showed up on the edge of our property. He was an old buck that had an unmistakable frame, and to me an encounter with an old, mature buck is all I wanted. Within seconds he jumped the fence onto our property and stood at 32 yards. The bolt I sent from the Ravin crossbow hit perfectly on target.

Sometimes I need to get out of my own way, and experience the moment. It doesn't matter if I had a vertical bow or crossbow or rifle in hand, it's about the experience. And I'll always be a supporter of products that help get people out there, and allow them to be ethical hunters. The opportunity to harvest an animal on our own land puts things in an entirely new perspective. It's a lens of gratitude , and is why this lifestyle means so much to me.

This morning Gary called me with his normal high and excitement in his voice after a successful harvest with his bow. This time it was a doe antelope off of a water source (first time he's ever hunted antelope from a groundblind). My love for this man continues to grow as he celebrates the simple moments while embracing every hunting adventure no matter the size. Proud of you G, and I look forward to dinner tonight.
